Picture: 9yo and his Musky

Well the last night out at the cabin I was able to get 9yo to go out in the boat and do some casting around the little bay on Pickerel Lake. About 20 casts in he was getting the hang of casting, but frustrated he had not caught anything. Fifteen casts later I sent one way out for him and he reeled in a small Musky. (verified by local fishermen since I am a novice) After the picture and ID we let the beautiful fish go on it’s way.
Picture: Little Brown Bat

One night after being outside we came into find this little guy hiding in the sink. There are quite a few bats near the cabin and they perch near the doorways. The coffee mug was put in there by my oldest with the lights out and then when I came to use the sink I turned the light on and there he was. I grabbed on of my son’s bug jars, scooped him up and let him go outside. The boys got to get a good look at it while it was in the jar and were really excited.
VACATION
Well vacation was relaxing and the boys had a great time. It was a bit cool so swimming was not a enjoyable as it has been in the past. We bicycled, swam, fished and spent time in a little boat. This was our third year up at the lake and it was just as enjoyable. Next year I will have to gear up for fishing since really the boys only did that this year. Maybe next year I can catch a BIG Musky. The car ride was a bit stressful with 3 boys ages 9, 5 ans 18 months trapped in the van for 6 hours. The little guy had a difficult time of it and hopefully next year he will be better. the addition of the roof top hard case was GREAT! The inside of the van was much better and we were able to take extra clothes including some cooler weather stuff since the nights were dropping into the low 50′s. Next year we will have a little more room with the a few baby items no longer needed.
Birthdays
Oldest turned 9 on July 30th and middle guy turns 5 this Sunday. It is hard to believe they are growing so fast.
School Starts
Next week school starts, YEAH!!! 9yo is in 4th grade and 5yo starts Half Day Kindergarten. So the baby and I will have some time to ourselves a few hours every morning. Both older boys really need to be back at school since they are fighting a lot lately.
Back To School (for Me!)
Well I have decided to go back to school and get my ADN (Associates Degree in Nursing) and then sit for my RN. Since I already have a BA I will not have to do all the core stuff which should make it easier for me to complete. The plan is to become a RN, get a off hour job at one of the local hospitals and then have them pay for my BSN and NP. This should all work out to happen about the time the little guy is in Kindergarten. Wow… Going back to school!
Back To Work
This coming Monday I will have my Software Testing job from home back as well as a nice contract for another company with another contract due with them this fall. Will be really busy, but the money will be nice. It works well since both jobs allow me to work from my home office at the times I want to.
The 5
- Vacation – It is wonderful to go on vacation, but the catch up when we get back sucks
- Football – The NFL preseason already started and the preseason starts for the Bears this Saturday!
- Daddy Time – The baby will get a lot more time starting next week with just me. He will miss his brothers, but the timing should work out well. They leave at 8:00 am, 5yo returns at Noon, 9yo returns at 3:45 and mom before 5:00. This will give him time to see everyone at a nice pace.
- Sleep – looks like I will be lacking that for the next few weeks with work and a contract going on. It will be like having a baby in the house again.
- Exercise – Back to another EA Sports Active 30 Day challenge starting Monday, Running and Bicycling… YEAH!
I will be blogging again DAILY starting on Monday!

My boys are fighting a lot too. I’m ready for school to start. One will be in full day Kindergarten and one will be in full day parent’s day out twice a week. That leaves me with a kidless Tues/Th.
I would have freaked out to find a bat in the sink. Poor bat would not have known what to do.

Wow, a musky! I’ve lived and fished in Minnesota for almost 20 years and I’ve never reeled one of those fish into the boat.
You must have been up north somewhere?

We were in Northern Wisconsin. Minoqua/Woodrif/St. Germain/Eagle River area. We actual stay on Pickerel Lake just outside of St. Germain. Yeah a Musky is a rare catch…
