After a day that seemed to never end with the cold outside and the cabin fever inside 3yo and I were able to get out for a short while. Just after dinner the phone rang. It was my neighbor three houses down with 3yo and 1yo boys. He asked if my 3yo wanted to come mess up his house for a while. This was a great idea that 3yo was extremely excited about. “Dad I get a play date and it is dark out!” 7yo was not too happy to not be included, but he and I spent more then an hour before Dinner playing Carcassonne. We walked down the street and when we got there my neighbor asked if I wanted to stay for a while too. I thought that would be a good idea since I have felt a little cabin feverish lately. We were chatting while the boys ran around for a while on the main floor. Then the boys wanted to go to the basement which is a toy basement for the little boys and big boys. It is currently unfinished, but they have a jump house up, cars and toys off all kinds. Then there is the big boy set up with the REALLLLLLY big TV, XBOX 360 and PS3… While the little boys played my neighbor asked if I wanted to do a little PS3 Boxing… Sure.
FightNight – The first match I was Ali he was Jones. Jr. They are two different weight classes and I pounded him into the mat. Next match..Ali vs Ali and I ended up kissing the mat 5 times before disqualifying my self with an bad button press. ‘The third and final match I went down hard in the first round, but came back strong and knocked him down 5 time in a row winning the match. Not too bad for never playing the game before. Needless to say my neighbor was not too happy losing to me since it is his game… Lots of fun for both of us.
The 5
- Fight Night – Not a bad game to play. The graphics are pretty cool, but boxing games for me overall are rather boring… Need a few kicks to make it more exciting.
- Still Cold – The cold was bitter again yesterday, but today might be a bit warm. Expected high of 22 degrees.
- Gaming With 7yo – We have now played Carcassonne two days in a row and we are both having a good time. Now I just need to teach him a little better planning and he will soon become a difficult opponent.
- Audibooks - I have been trying to come up with some good listening material at the library. They have a large selection, but I prefer SciFi /Fantasy. Lots of Mysteries and Spy Novels. Today I found a book I have been looking to read or listen to. “Ender’s Game“
- Listen not Read - With 3 kid, house stuff and of course my job finding time to read or have the ability to read is difficult. So I have been really enjoying Listening to Books. Now would this be considered READING? I consider kind of reading.

Actually that’s a really good idea about listening to books. There are so many good reads out there, so little time. I know of people who do that on long car trips….great idea.

Ok. I’m logged in using Wive’s account and her PC. Checking out daddy blogs as I am new daddy to now 15month old. He joined as 10month old through adoption. Man alive. Dads blog? I thought the old ball and chain was kidding. Ragin’ dude.
Ok so when will kiddo be old enough for Tiger Woods Golf or College GameDay? We have boy/man game in basement too. S_W_E_E_T! I have found 1 dad who likes to do playdates involving college sports and beer. Luckily his daughter and my son are the same age, both happy to toddle around putting fingers in their noses, and yelling TOUCHDOWN. Perfect.
Why is none of this discussed out in the open? Why is there not a book on this for dads?
Must write one. All about finding other cool dads. All about finding ways to “bring the pain” and still have a hand free to (1) wipe a nose (2) pat a cushy diapered bottom and (3) tickle said child under the chin. Must find a way to explain the concept of Hooters to both toddler girls and boys. Must find a way to explain bringing toddlers to Hooters.
Wife better not be checking to see what I have been doing on her PC. I could end up in serious trouble here. Like the time I mopped the kitchen floor with dishwashing liquid and it was sticky, filmy and full of footprints the next day.
Enjoyed the blog.

One more thought. Have you tried books on CD in the car for your 7 year old? My friend’s wife does this with their daughter and it works pretty well. They listen and discuss. All kinds of kids books are available at the library in this format.

I really don’t listen in the car seeing as most of my trips are really SHORT! I tend to listen when I do house work. Throw on the ear buds and listen away. Library even has little mp3 player books…
Currently my 7yo is reading the First Harry Potter and when he finishes a chapter he and I discuss. I have read and listened to all the HP books…

I think it totally counts! Hell, I have three kids too and I know how hard it is to do anything for more than 10 minutes at a time!
