Well this past weekend really made my helmet beliefs come into focus. I am a big supporter of wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle and will always wear one as will my entire family. My riding buddies and I will not allow anyone to ride with us without that helmet on.

A good friend “Dirt Magnet” from wonkemtel.com came into town with his son so the group got together to ride. “Handy Rider” and “Component Killer” joined the ride as well. We had planned a 2-3 hour rid starting somewhere around 4:00ish. After a extra long check of equipment it was time to hit the road and then the trail. A local trail system is only a few miles from my house via residential roads. We started off and made our way to the trail. After getting to the State Park portion we came to a road crossing. Four of us made it through, but “Handy Rider” looked away and hit a Trail Post in the center of the trail causing a MAJOR crash. He landed on his head!!! Lucky for him he was wearing his helmet…

The force he hit the pavement at and his body weight there is a strong possibility we would have been picking up pieces of skull and brain from the pavement.

It is truly important to always wear your helmet…

Everyday I see the neighborhood kids not wearing their helmets and now more then ever I worry for their safety.

Daily Observation: There are a million excuses not to wear a helmet. There are NO reasons to not wear one.
